The way a manufacturing process is planned, communicated, adjusted, and delivered matters just as much as the parts themselves, especially when parts are needed within a defined testing window.
This was the case in a recent space-related R&D project supported by Rototip. For confidentiality reasons, we cannot share the full application, assembly, or part details. But the project is a useful example of how planning and communication drive optimal outcomes in precision manufacturing engineering projects.

Planning the right manufacturing approach around the part
For this project, the geometry of the parts shaped the manufacturing route. Our customer, with the support of the Rototip team, selected a process that combined turning and wire EDM. Turning was used to create the initial form, while Wire EDM allowed the curved structures to be produced with the required precision.
Because the parts were small and thin, they needed to be held securely during the EDM operation. A dedicated fixture was prepared for this step to keep the process stable, repeatable, and suitable for the required geometry. The fixture was not part of the final delivery, but it was an important part of the manufacturing process.
What the customer receives is the finished part, but behind that part is often a carefully planned manufacturing route designed around the project's requirements.
Keeping the customer informed during production
Throughout the project, the customer was kept informed as the parts moved through production. After the Wire EDM process was completed, progress photos were shared before the parts moved to nickel plating.

Visual updates make progress easier to follow and help the customer understand where the project stands without waiting for the final shipment.
Keeping the progress and problems visible
During production, the team identified that the original delivery plan would need a slight adjustment. Keeping in mind that the parts were needed for a planned test window, the customer was informed immediately, and the revised shipment timing was communicated.

This gave the customer the room to adjust their internal planning around the expected delivery date. For R&D projects, this kind of communication matters because testing schedules are often connected to engineering resources, lab availability, and the next stage of development.
Making sure each step supported the next one
Each manufacturing step had to prepare the part for the next stage, not be planned in isolation.
For this project, turning, Wire EDM, and nickel plating all had to work together. The output of one stage became the starting point for the next, so the team reviewed the process carefully before moving forward with the final batch.
This meant the process was not treated as a series of separate operations. Each step was checked with the next one in mind, helping the project move forward in a controlled and transparent way.
Reducing the risk with one responsible partner
When a project involves multiple manufacturing steps, the risk is not only in the technical operations themselves. It is also in the handovers between them. Each step matters, but the real value comes from how those steps are managed together.
